Manic Monday Tidbits: Andymonium.

1) I had a bizarre moment when I fell asleep during the rain delay in Momo v Dina, woke up early morning in Melbourne and saw that the Murray v Wawrinka match was still going. Whaaaaaaa?

It’s only a matter of time before we screw tradition and bring
in the night matches.

It sounded like a magical match, [...]

WHO?

It would pay to know who you’re writing about, Times.

Nobody beats Robin Soderling 12 times in a row.

I have a love/hate relationship with grass court tennis, and this match reminded me of everything I hate about it – watching serve after serve whizz past. Yawn. The only thing that made it a more interesting was how tight the match was.
Interestingly enough, Robin Soderling hasn’t lost a match to anyone not named Roger [...]

It wasn’t just me.

Glad I’m not the only one baffled by the scheduling at Wimbledon.

Women on centre court in week 1: Sharapova, Dulko, Wozniacki, Kirilenko, Azarenka, Cirstea
Top seeds placed on court 1, 2, 4, and 18: Serena, Venus, Kuznetsova, Ivanovic

I hope the organisers eat Serena’s fist for this, since mine are rather small.

‘It’s the Wimbledon play committee, not [...]

Wimbledon Day 6 Tidbits: Time, Truth and Heart.

1) I never cease to marvel at the “orderliness” at Wimbledon. For a tournament of rules and traditions, it has a strange protective effect over the top seeds, it shields them from freak upsets in the first week. It also has the ability to realise pre-tournament predictions, be it an ultimate Federer/Nadal-Roddick showdown, or a [...]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T Reloaded

Am I being too hypersensitive here? Just in the last week, I feel like I’ve posted a lot about sexism in tennis and in sport in general. I know it has always existed, but it just seems to be getting out of hand lately with Michael Stich’s comments, some of the stuff written in British [...]

Wimbledon Day 5 Tidbits: R-E-S-P-E-C-T

1) I’m a bit annoyed at complete lack of attention and respect that Novak Djokovic has received at Wimbledon this year. As the third highest seed left in the draw, the guy is slipping bizarrely under the radar. Especially when you consider that it is Novak Djokovic and not Andy Murray, who has a grand [...]

The way you make me feel.

There’s no getting around it. Watching Roger Federer befrazzles me. It makes me want to pole vault my way up the equator and into centre court while blinding praying that they’ve got the roof open.

It started off rather stunningly: Paul Gilham/Getty Images

The first two sets promised to be a Federer clinic again. And even that [...]

We love Roger YES WE DO! We love Roger HOW ABOUT YOU?

A couple of posts back, I mentioned the new Nike website launched to gather messages of support for Roger. I just checked out some of the 380+ messages currently on the site, only to fully realise what a warm-fuzzy concept it is. A lot of fans out there had some quirky things to say.

Some impersonated [...]

Wimbledon Day 4 Tidbits: Beat it!

1) I had a bit of a freak out moment when Venus Williams walked out with her knees taped against KBond.
By “freak out”, I meant something along the lines of – “OMG, VENUS WILLIAMS HAS TAPE ON HER KNEES. OMG! WHAT’S HAPPENING? I NEED EXPLANATIONS!”
Sorry for the caps lock abuse, I just COULDN’T STOP YELLING. Seriously [...]
