I have no idea what they were trying to do…

… but I sure as hell would’ve like to be jammed in the middle

Mentioning Rafa, what is this nonsense about him possibly playing a clay tournament before Montreal?

Google tells me that means:

The Spaniard will reappear in Montreal and Cincinnati, U.S. Open, Bangkok, China, Shanghai, Paris and London Masters. The only question is whether he might even return to the tour before then on European clay, not because the doctors and his team want him to, but because he has some crazy desire to play. Really. In an I-already-have-a-gazillion-clay-court-titles-but-zero-USOs kinda way, REALLY?

Hope this is all just speculation, as the article did come from a few days ago. But … REALLY?

  1. I’m waiting to see what Uncle Toni has to say. I have a feeling he and Rafa weren’t seeing eye to eye on withdrawing from Wimbledon (as in, Toni was insisting on it even before the exhos, and when Rafa wouldn’t agree, that’s when Toni made his “if it were me, I’d be on a plane” remarks to the press. At least, that’s how it sounded to me).

    • That’s right. I think Rafa wanted to play Wimbledon, even despite the knees, and Uncle Toni realised a lot earlier than him that he was in no shape to compete.

Not sure how much imput Uncle Toni has into Rafa’s schedule though, because he needs to convince Rafa to drop a few clay court tournaments so he can last through a full season – Monte Carlo and Barcelona for starters.
