I think Rafa wanted to play Wimbledon, even despite the knees, and Uncle Toni realised a lot earlier than him that he was in no shape to compete. Not sure how much imput Uncle Toni has into Rafa's schedule though, because he needs to convince Rafa to drop a few clay court tournaments so he can last through a full season - Monte Carlo and Barcelona for starters.
