 The ITF is appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to seek a longer ban for Reeshie:

 

“The ITF can confirm that, jointly with WADA (the World Anti-Doping Agency), it has appealed to CAS (the Court of Arbitration for Sport) the decision of the independent tribunal in the case of Richard Gasquet,” the ITF said in a statement.

Someone explain to me what rational reason the ITF has for appealing this decision:

1) Gasquet has been trialed already and found guilty but inadvertently contaminated. What purpose is served by asking for a more onerous sanction? On the one hand, a young player’s career is at stake here, on the other, dopers aren’t going to suddenly stop doping because you’re appealing for a more draconian punishment for Gasquet. 

2) He’s missed out on 2 grand slams and 4 ATP1000 tournaments in the meanwhile (Gasquet has pulled out of Montreal), which is a severe enough punishment given the minuscule amount of cocaine found in his system.

3) ITF’s anti-doping rules are complete ridiculous to begin with. Gasquet hasn’t used performance-enhancing drugs. As far as the evidence shows, he’s not even a regular user of recreational drugs. Is this really the guy you’d want to make an example out of?  

 

 

Let it rest. Don’t you have better things to do with your money, ITF? Like, oh, I don’t know, promoting peace between Fedal fans, or something? Don’t give it away to lawyers.
