Justine Henin Retirement Watch: trying not to be optimistic is hard, okay?

Justine ordered some new racquets and suddenly tennis world is all in a twitter about her comeback:

Rough summary:

Former World No. 1 Justine Henin is very close to announcing her return to competition and many signs point in this direction.

One thing is sure, the champion scheduled some communication around the 16 September and a new factor reinforces the argument on her plans to return.

For we know for sure that Justine has ordered 14 racquets from the company that customized rackets for Justine. 14 racquets was precisely the number of rackets the 4 time winner of Roland Garros needed during tournaments.

Moreover, the requested configuration is similar to that of two years ago: the string and tension are identical. The technical details are therefore compatible with competition guide line, and thus a return to competition …

The Rodriguez clan has refused to comment.

Oh you spoilsports!

The spate of rumors started earlier this month when Elke Van Dongen-Rodriguez, wife of Justine’s former coach – Carlos Rodriguez, admitted that Justine was making some plans, and has started practicing 3 or 4 times a week for some exhibition tournaments at the end of the year.

Justine has specifically refused to either confirm of deny these rumors at her recent UNICEF press conference.

Does she get a protected ranking or is it the wildcards deal? And if she tunes up properly isn’t she the favourite for the French already?

    • dootsiez says :

Because she formally retired and had herself removed from the rankings straightaway, she doesn’t get a protected ranking. She’ll have to depend on the tournaments giving her a wild card.
