The Week In-Between: Yeah Right.
Caroline Wozniacki retired against Kremer 75 50. The wondrous thing about it all is that she was covering the court like water but limping in between points.
Either 25 tournaments a year really is too much for the 19-year-old to handle, or someone decided that instead of pulling out of Luxembourg altogether, she’ll turn up, give the spectators ‘almost’ a match before gifting the win to her opponent.
Her pride save. Her body spared. No walk-overs next round. Kremer gets to play at least another match. Seems like a rather neat way of handling the situation, even if it’s slightly patronising for her opponent.
Second seed Kim Clijsters was solid against Meghann Shaughnessy, defeating the American 62 62. Not much to say really, poor Meghann still hasn’t had an easy draw this year and Kim did what she had to do. Hubby Brian Lynch was onsite to provide moral support, and up the Gooey-Index.
Over in Russia, JJ and Vera both stay on course in their fight for the last spot in Doha. Vera had a straight sets victory over Olaru 62 62, JJ on the other hand needed 3 sets to down Shvedova 64 57 61.
Shoulda been straight sets, but in typical JJ fashion, she succumbed to her US Open demons and told the world that she wished her daddy was there.
As you do, when you’re Princess Sparkles.
A win’s a win, and we live to fight another day. Rock on Sparky.
