3-0: Now that’s what I call a rivalry.
Move over Roger. You’re no longer Andy’s arch-nemesis. Serena Williams is.
The Rena-RAndy rivalry dates back to when they were 11 – allegedly – when Serena – allegedly – beat Randy 6-1 – allegedly – or as Randy would have it, 64 … allegedly.
There was no avoiding a rematch yesterday, as Serena, Kournikova, Andy Roddick, joined forces with BJK and Elton John for the WTT Smash Hits in Baton Rouge.
Serena and her hot bangs teamed up with Elton John to take out Roddick and Kournikova in the Pro/Celebrity match. Later, Serena sealed her “domination” by scoring another victory in mixed doubles over Roddick/Rubin with Tommy Haas.
I find it amusing that Anna Kournikova could be considered a “celebrity” in the pro/celebrity doubles.
Seriously, her hair looked so neat and post-nuclear-apocalyptically straight. I’m jealous.
It was all for a good cause, as the event raised more than $640,000 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and various AIDS charities in the Baton Rouge area. Not bad for a few hours work by these guys.
The day was less successful for older sis Venus over in Antwerp.
Error prone, serving poorly, but otherwise looking healthy and injury free, Venus lost to Kim Clijsters, 6-1 7-5. Here’s to hoping she turns up in Melbourne in better form.
That’s where you’ll be heading, Hot Mama, if you keep playing like that.
So … 21 days til Abu Dhabi.
Not that I’m counting or anything. I mean, geez! What kindava desperate tennis fan do you take me for?
