Back in business, bitches.

Friends, romans, countrymen,

I am back!

It’s been 8 months since I’ve posted here with any sense of regularity, and while this blog has become increasingly idle in that time, my life has sped up in a way that at times took my breath away.

In the past 8 months, I’ve (finally!) finished my marathon double degree, travelled 14 countries across 5 continents, came back to Australia to start a new job, move to a new city, and spent my first two 2 months here without any internet connection (remember those days? How did we live?).

Whew.

I’m not going to pretend that keeping up a blog isn’t an incredibly time consuming exercise. It takes away a huge chunk of your daily life not only to follow tennis, but to read up news reports, analysis, plann content, write, format, upload. Towards mid 2011, I was feeling worn out and exhausted by it all.

But as the cliche goes: you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. In my 6 months of world tramping, one of the things I’ve missed the most was my darling Picket Fence, the little blog and community that I call my own, the routine of sitting down and tapping away at a keyboard every day, and all of you who shared it with me.

Now that I’ve settled back into “normal life” once more, it’s time for me to rebuild Picket Fence. I’ve never pretended that this blog is anything more than an amateur fan blog – a place for likeminded fans to vent some steam and talk tennis, and it will remain that way.

Having said that, I do hope the content of this blog will become more balanced from now on. Federer will always be the resident Leviathan of Picket Fence and of my tennis fandom, but ultimately, no man is bigger than the sport. I’d like to think that my love of tennis is broader than a (let’s face it) mildly creepy obsession with one player.

A massive, MASSIVE thank you to PJ, LJ and Matt Zemek for keeping the blog alive in my absence. I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of helpers and I hope you’ll come back and contribute during slam time.

So here we go. Clay season 2012. Are you ready?

xx doots

Julie!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back! We even met in person during your world tour! I am so glad you are back at posting here. Am I ready for the clay season? You bet!!!!

Am I ready to have a more balanced blog? Not sure. I was just thinking that tomorrow the final is played at 5 am my time and that most likely, even without an alarm, I’ll wake up around that time and watch it (it’s that damn internal clock). But then, thinking about that, I realized that my first reaction will likely be: why am I up so early to watch these two clowns? Where is the Maestro???? ๐Ÿ™‚

I am happy you are abck and I am ready for the clay season,. I am skeptical of tennis ever being the same as Roger becomes less a Sunday for-sure fixture, but I am willing to try ๐Ÿ™‚ Right now, I am watching less tennis, which isn’t all bad. I will watch the final today and root for goo tennis. That’s a start. Really enjoyed your traveloguing!!!!

  19. bridgepea says :

Welcome back bitcheez. Uhm, let me just say that the picket fence should continue to be a lover of all things Fed and trashing of all things Andy Murray and Satan with a smidgen of something called mini liking for Nadal (still thinking about that). Anywho good to have you back blogging. We missed you and PJ, LJ and Matt did a pretty good job

  20. Pika says :

Welcome back, Doots!! Congrats on your degrees and new job! Hooray for the safe and happy travels!! And I have no idea how you did it, but you survived two months without internet! >_<

Federer will always weigh more than the rest of them together! Forget that “balance”

  22. Katarina_YYZ says :

    Wow, welcome back! ๐Ÿ˜€
I thought for sure you’d left us for good to become a ‘serious professional’ or something. So glad you missed this place and want to return.

You look great in that photo ๐Ÿ˜‰

The redesign is nice, classy. But needs more Federer! ๐Ÿ˜›

  23. Matt Zemek says :

Doots, getting internet back in light of what you’ve faced is like going through Karlovic, Simon, Raonic, Isner, Tsonga, Djokovic, and Nadal to win a major.

    Congratulations!!!!!

    Doots 2012!
