DC Picspam: There will be no concubinage.

Deja poo. Haven’t we seen this last year?

A part of me wishes the Czech Republic had put up more resistance, but at the end of the day, I cheered on the Spaniards for one reason and one reason only: they are one helluva team.

They are more of a team than any of the other teams competing in the Davis Cup. Especially when compared to the Swiss lineup, which looks much like “Roger Federer and his 4 Concubines“.

But the Armada is different. They have their stars, their old faithfuls, they have Feliciano Lopez. They play, breathe, act and celebrate like a team. Of course they’d win the Davis Cup, they epitomise what the Davis Cup should be and could be about, when done right. A well-deserved victory.

Tennis-wise, I’ve given up on Fernando Verdasco, who scored a grand total of 0 top 8 victories since his win over Murray at the Australian Open. I can’t put words to it, but there’s a difference between a “really good player” and a “world class ass-kicker”. Verdasco has been knocking on the doors of the latter for the most part of the year. Entry denied.

I wish that was the end of the story. For any other player, it would be. I have little patience for wasted talent. Verdasco’s a mental midget on-court. He implodes mid-match. He deflates in fifth sets. His body language sucks. He seems to change girlfriends as the tennis season changes surfaces, and he won’t leave his hair alone.

I can’t for the life of me understand why I even like this guy.

But I do, and the only rational explanation I can offer is that he’s “Marilyn” to Roger’s “Jackie”. And despite all appearances, he appears to be … well, a genuinely nice guy and exhilarating to watch as a player.

A little picspam? Boo. Get out of my face.

Romeo save me, they try to tell me how to feel

This love is difficult, but it’s RE-EAL

Quoting Taylor Swift now, doots?! what next, Miley Cryus?!

  2. meretricula says :

oh, Fernando. I don’t even like him most of the time, he seems like such a sleaze with the women and I don’t find him all that attractive. and then he goes and is casually great with small children and my heart melts. still wish he would get gay married to Feliciano Lopez already instead of slutting around with the WTA, though.

Has anyone seen Roger’s schedule on his site?A poster on GTT brought up that it seems to have been updated, and if it’s right he’s heading into the AO cold, and not playing Madrid, where he has A 1000 BLOODY POINTS TO DEFEND,I’m realllllllllly confused!

    • dootsiez says :

I saw it. It’s different to the earlier schedule he released where he was playing Qatar before the AO. Maybe it’s not the finished schedule yet. I HAVE NO IDEA?!

      • FortuneCookie says :

It’s weird, hoping it’s a mistake on the website’s part, cos although i think Roger is technically allowed to skip 1 Masters a year (because of that rule about winning a certain no of matches),it’s pretty basic common sense to NOT SKIP THE ONE YOU WON!
And then after Wimbly methinks he can skip 2 because he’ll have been on tour for 12 years??
BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD ROGER!

        • dootsiez says :

Hmmm interesting point. What I don’t get is Estoril. Surely instead of opting out of 2 out of 3 clay masters, he should consider dropping the random ATP250 he picked up for no apparent reason other than oh-i-dunno-he-likes-Portugal-or-something.

If he wanted some rest coming up to Roland Garros, take Estoril off, and play Madrid or Monte Carlo.

          Doufus.

      • pban says :

Checked it a few minutes back, he is playing Quatar and Madrid if the present schedule is correct.Estoril??? why he would want to play 3 consecutive weeks before RG is beyond me.

      • FortuneCookie says :

        Yeah,I didn’t get Estoril either…
Normally when top players play tourneys like that it’s either for a big appearance fee or they’re friends with the tourney director and feel obliged
But thinking more about it,I wouldn’t be too surprised if he withdraws from Estoril a week or two before,as cynical as it sounds the directors wouldn’t be too bothered either, because way more people will have already bought tickets for their event thinking that Roger will play…

        • FortuneCookie says :

Although he’s played Estoril before (and won it) so maybe my thinkings kinda flawed there…
I’d be surprised if Roger was chasing money with an appearance fee there, because he REALLY doesn’t need it,and even in his early years he never really did that, hmmm, maybe he just really wants piri piri or something? 😉

      • FortuneCookie says :

Schedule’s back to normal,no idea what that glitch was!

        • Ribbons says :

I could’ve sworn that Davis Cup was on the front page schedule yesterday. Now it’s not. *shrug* Maybe the webmaster just got muddled about which Madrid event to include.

        • dootsiez says :

Yes, the Davis Cup was on the schedule yesterday. I remember making a mental note of it too. Perhaps the administrator just got mixed up between the “Madrid” tournaments.

I hate Taylor Swift so very, very much. She makes me want to stab out my own eyes.

But she is slightly more tolerable when applied to Spanish manlove instead of emo tweens.

  5. The Fan Child says :

I have three words for you: Ferrer, Ferrer, and more Ferrer!!!

    • dootsiez says :

Ferrer?! Good job on winning his matches, but the guy doesn’t capture my imagination.

      • meretricula says :

but! but! but he is TINY, and chews on his towels, and always has his tongue sticking out, and won basically the most epic comeback ever this weekend, and then he went and ignored pretty much his entire team so he could hug Juanqui first – honestly those fifteen seconds warmed my heart more than the FeLo/FeVer shenanigans, you could see how desperately he just wanted not to let his teammates down, especially after he was picked over Ferrero. also he has really pretty eyes. what? I’m shallow. (the tumblr is not mine, I’m just too lazy to upload the pics myself.)

        • dootsiez says :

I dunno about pretty eyes. Personally I always thought his eyes made him look like a panda, in a “I got punched on both sides of my face” kinda way.

        • meretricula says :

haha, well, it probably helps that I think pandas are adorable, then. I love the color of his eyes, though, seriously, I think that kind of greenish-hazel is so pretty. (tried to come up with a better descriptive adjective, failed.) one last attempt to convince you and I will retire for the night. =)

        • dootsiez says :

*grumbles* He looks like he has permanent black eyes, that poor abused child. Want beautiful eyes? Look to Feli instead. His eyes are totally swoonworthy.

          Sorry meretricula, not converted. 😛

  6. flo says :

I think what your blog peeps are saying is that they want you to start quoting Bob Dylan or at the very least Springsteen. Or White Stripes or Radiohead, ya?

Off topic, is someone going to ask Roger about the minarets ban in Switzerland? There’s no way he takes a position publicly, right? No right answer.

    • dootsiez says :

Don’t think it’ll come up, he doesn’t appear to have any close Muslim friends. Perhaps someone might ask him when he plays in Qatar or Dubai.
